POSITION OVERVIEW

This role is responsible for the upkeep of the college's outdoor areas and assisting with events through a variety of tasks:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

  1. Adhere to health and safety protocols, including the use of protective gear.
  2. Mow lawns and perform trimming and edging around pathways, flower beds, and structures.
  3. Shape and enhance the growth of shrubs and trees through pruning, while removing any damaged foliage.
  4. Apply fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees. Collect and dispose of leaves and debris.
  5. Maintain cleanliness of grounds, including walkways, parking areas, building entrances, and athletic fields.
  6. Clear litter, debris, and waste from the premises.
  7. Remove snow from pathways, driveways, entrances, and fire hydrants.
  8. Distribute ice-melt on public walkways to prevent ice accumulation.
  9. Plant and care for grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Ensure proper watering of lawns and flower beds.
  10. Assist in the maintenance of fences, gates, walls, and pathways.
  11. Clear drainage systems, including ditches, culverts, and exterior stairwells.
  12. Utilize a variety of hand tools, power equipment, and vehicles.
  13. Move furniture and other materials as required, including setup tasks.
  14. Provide updates on work status, including time and material usage.
  15. Show willingness to learn and adopt new practices.
  16. Communicate effectively and respectfully with supervisors, customers, and colleagues.
  17. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  18. Deliver high-quality customer service.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES when acting as a refuse-recycling driver:

  1. Operate various refuse and recycling collection equipment.
  2. Clear trash from collection points and surrounding areas.
  3. Transport recyclable materials to designated disposal sites.
  4. Maintain cleanliness of equipment and keep operational logs, including fluid levels and tire pressure checks.
  5. Prepare logs for trash collection, equipment maintenance records, and report any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
  6. Provide feedback on campus recycling initiatives to the supervisor.
  7. Demonstrate a commitment to learning and improving service quality.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent; one to three months of relevant experience or training, or a combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with groups.

MATH SKILLS

Proficiency in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Capable of solving problems with multiple variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License and any necessary state licenses for herbicide and pesticide application.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks regularly. Candidates must be able to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds with appropriate assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employees may encounter various environmental conditions including exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather, and vibrations. The noise level is typically moderate.

COMPENSATION: $19.77 per hour as per the contract.
