Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in operating the tools and machinery utilized in landscaping or a combination of relevant experience and education totaling two years.
  • Must have successfully completed commercial certification tests (30T-Ornamental and Turf) for pesticide application and be eligible for certification.
  • Additional commercial certification tests may be required as necessary.
Special Required Qualifications:
Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class B with air brake, motor vehicle inspector certification

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in grading, seeding, and sodding
Knowledge of effective planting methods and experience with trees, shrubs, and perennials
Ability to identify various plant species, both cultivated and native
Experience with irrigation systems

Job Description:
The Facilities Planning and Management Department at Iowa State University is looking for candidates for the position of Landscaping Specialist II.

This role involves collaborating with a team to ensure the university grounds are maintained in an aesthetically pleasing manner throughout the seasons.

The individual in this position must hold a valid Iowa Pesticide Applicator License (category 3OT and 6) to effectively apply herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, and fertilizers to various plant types including annuals, perennials, turf, shrub beds, rock islands, and trees.

Additionally, this role includes the responsibility of accurately completing required state spray documentation.

Safe operation and upkeep of various equipment, such as loaders, tractors, rollers, sod cutters, mowers, string trimmers, shovels, and edgers, is essential.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, possess strong communication skills, and prioritize safety.

Must possess State of Iowa Commercial Applicator License Category 3OT at the time of hire.
Must obtain State of Iowa Commercial Applicator License Category 6 within 90 days of hire.
