The Field Operations Superintendent plays a crucial role in providing overall leadership for field operations and execution for designated project(s).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee assigned projects to ensure alignment with the construction schedule, quality expectations, and adherence to company Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Collaborate with clients and architects throughout the project lifecycle, fostering relationships that enhance client satisfaction.
  • Recruit and develop qualified talent; mentor, coach, and train team members to ensure effective alignment of skills with project requirements, including Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, Career Start Project Engineers, and Co-ops.
  • Provide guidance and support to field staff regarding materials, sequencing, scheduling, personnel, and construction methodologies.
  • Act as an advocate for Field Operations.
  • Engage in business development activities by supporting the Business Development Department.
  • Participate in pre-construction services and sales presentations.
  • Review projects for constructability and devise construction plans.
  • Prepare a summary baseline schedule, detailing the logic and durations of major work activities for the scheduler.
  • Ensure the baseline schedule meets project delivery requirements.
  • Create site access and staging/sequencing plans and conduct technical reviews.
  • Provide input on budgets and assess field staff needs.
  • Attend Project Turnover meetings.
  • Offer the Project Team insights on scope reviews and Exhibit "B" documents.
  • Implement all Suffolk policies and procedures related to field staff assignments and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct weekly site visits to assess conditions, including safety and overall presentation.
  • Ensure field personnel meet established performance standards.
  • Oversee the development of the baseline schedule and monitor compliance with all project schedules.
  • Lead the monthly update and narrative process.
  • Verify that workmanship and materials comply with plans and specifications.
  • Review project schedules during site visits, identifying potential challenges.
  • Provide innovative solutions to overcome challenges and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Ensure timely completion of punch lists.
  • Participate in the one-year warranty walkthrough, ensuring all issues are resolved promptly and appropriate records are maintained.

Client Relations and Meeting Management:
  • Attend all necessary meetings to monitor and manage projects effectively.
  • Participate in owner meetings as required and Project Team (PM/PE) meetings at least twice monthly.
  • Maintain ongoing client communication to assess performance perceptions.
  • Relay relevant information to project teams.
  • Foster and sustain effective working relationships with team members.

Training:
  • Coordinate field training in job-specific and safety protocols.
  • Ensure field staff receive training in accordance with Suffolk guidelines.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of Suffolk-specific training programs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management, with experience relevant to the size and scope of projects.
  • A minimum of 15 years of general contracting experience.
  • Specific project characteristics regarding size, complexity, and sector dictate the precise years of experience and industry knowledge necessary for success.
  • Possession of applicable area licenses.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively.
  • Business acumen to balance budgetary constraints with construction processes.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage intricate details essential for successful construction.
  • Judgment to escalate issues appropriately within the chain of command.
  • A strong sense of urgency and initiative, with the ability to quickly comprehend complex issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the confidence to take decisive action.
  • Strong diplomatic and communication skills, capable of interacting effectively with senior management and resolving conflicts in a fair manner.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, communicate verbally, and perform fine motor skills using a keyboard, telephone, or writing instruments.
