Internship Description:

As a Student Tax Preparation Intern, you will engage in providing complimentary tax preparation services to low-income individuals and families. This role is crucial in assisting underserved communities while developing essential skills in tax preparation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver compassionate and respectful service to clients.
  • Accurately prepare personal tax returns utilizing designated tax software.
  • Conduct thorough intake interviews to assess clients' tax situations.
  • Utilize tax resource materials to ensure compliance with tax laws.
  • Share valuable insights with clients regarding tax-related issues and financial improvement strategies.

Qualifications:
  • Current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • No prior tax knowledge required; training will be provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and empathy when interacting with diverse communities.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Fluency in a second language, such as Spanish, is advantageous.

Training:

This internship includes comprehensive training to prepare you for the IRS volunteer certification exams necessary for tax preparation. The training will equip you with the knowledge to handle simple tax returns while ensuring client confidentiality.

Work Environment:

This position is office-based, requiring the ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand. Familiarity with standard office equipment is necessary.
