Position Overview


The Sommelier plays a pivotal role in guiding guests through their dining journey. This position serves as the authority on all beverage-related aspects and the steps of service within the establishment. The Sommelier is expected to assist in various service tasks, including polishing glassware, serving food, clearing tables, and supporting team members as needed. Additionally, the Sommelier collaborates with the Lead Sommelier in managing the wine cellar, overseeing inventory, and conducting weekly wine training sessions.


Key Responsibilities:

- Warmly greet and welcome guests to establish rapport.

- Assist guests with wine selections while ensuring high beverage service standards.

- Promote dessert wines, non-alcoholic beverages, and take-home selections.

- Facilitate effective communication between departments during service.

- Support the Lead Sommelier in providing ongoing beverage training and education for the team.

- Maintain organization and cleanliness of the wine cellar, eurocave, and wine fridge.

- Ensure the accuracy of the wine list, including takeaways and storage locations.

- Aid the Lead Sommelier with monthly inventory of glassware and beverages.

- Assist in receiving, storing, and organizing wine inventory.

- Monitor and minimize loss through proper pour levels and waste management, reporting any corked or faulty wines to the Lead Sommelier.

- Engage in continuous tasting, research, and industry involvement.

- Collaborate with the Lead Sommelier in creating and producing non-alcoholic beverages.

- Actively mentor and develop junior staff members.

- Perform opening and closing duties, including managing POS terminal operations and cash handling.

- Complete any outstanding side work tasks assigned by other associates.

- Anticipate and respond promptly to unexpected guest needs.

- Notify management of any repair or maintenance issues related to the cellar, eurocaves/wine fridges, and beverage mise-en-place.

- Attend required training sessions and meetings.

- Collaborate with fellow staff and management to ensure the restaurant reaches its full potential.


Qualifications:

- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a sommelier in a Michelin-starred fine dining environment.

- Extensive knowledge of food and beverages, particularly French wines and cuisine.

- Proficient in G Suite and inventory management systems.

- Strong leadership skills with a commitment to sustainability and excellence.

- Passion for teaching and fostering professional growth.

- Excellent problem-solving, multitasking, and delegation abilities.

- Initiative and follow-through are essential.

- Exceptional attention to detail.
