Position Overview:
The Music Therapist is responsible for designing and executing music therapy initiatives that align with the ethical standards established by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the core mission of Bi-County Services, Inc.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops and implements tailored music therapy sessions.
- Evaluates clients' abilities and requirements in relation to music therapy and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Maintains accurate records of progress, attendance, and incidents in accordance with Bi-County policies.
- Ensures the program is responsive to the individual needs and preferences of clients.
- Procures and manages musical instruments, supplies, and necessary equipment.
- Facilitates music therapy sessions at varied times to accommodate client schedules.
- Organizes and leads group outings and performances.
- Maintains an organized music therapy environment.
- Collaborates with colleagues to coordinate music-related activities.
- Guarantees a safe and supportive environment for clients, free from abuse, neglect, and rights violations.
- Adheres to the professional standards set by the AMTA.
- Engages in ongoing professional development, including training and staff meetings, as required; upholds professional standards.
- Follows agency policies, including the Employee Handbook and Code of Business Practices and Ethics.
Essential Qualifications:
- Meets documentation and assignment deadlines consistently.
- Makes informed decisions that positively affect clients' lives.
- Manages multiple tasks effectively.
- Adapts to unexpected situations with professionalism.
- Works in an environment with moderate noise levels (instruments).
- Functions independently while maintaining accuracy in documentation.
- Handles confidential information with discretion.
- Addresses behavioral challenges using Positive Intervention Techniques training.
- Maintains a professional demeanor while engaging with clients.
- Demonstrates strong organizational skills and the ability to create and maintain program documentation systems.
- Possesses basic mathematical skills for tasks such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and monetary calculations.
- Capable of reading technical materials and composing reports and business correspondence.
- Effectively communicates with individuals with developmental disabilities, staff, and the general public.
- Successfully completes training and maintains certification in First Aid/CPR, Medication Administration, and Positive Intervention Techniques within the first 90 days of employment.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy
- Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC)
