About the Role

The Courtroom Deputy for an Article III Judge plays a critical role in managing a judge's cases by ensuring accurate filing of documents in CM/ECF, monitoring deadlines, and setting dates for hearings and trials. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills to keep the judge, staff, and team members informed of case progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review case information to ensure all records and reference materials are available for the judge and counsel.
  • Attend court sessions, conferences, and naturalization ceremonies, and assist with the orderly flow of proceedings.
  • Take notes of proceedings and rulings, and prepare minute entries and associated paperwork.
  • Draft orders and judgments for the judge's approval, and operate digital recording equipment.
  • Manage exhibits, including sensitive exhibits, and have complete criminal calendar responsibility.
  • Assist with jury data entry, check-in, and selection process, and record jurors' attendance for payment purposes.
  • Train counsel and staff on courtroom presentation equipment, and assist with reserving interpreters and court reporters.
  • Prepare statistical reports and assist with training court employees on court operations.
  • Perform case management duties, including making summary entries in CM/ECF and performing quality assurance checks.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, applicants must be a citizen of the United States or eligible to work in the United States. A bachelor's degree is preferred, and prior court or legal experience is highly valued. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks.
