Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgical Technician to join our healthcare team at Sante Health Partners. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background and demonstrate exceptional patient care skills.

The Surgical Technician will work under the direct supervision of a Director of Surgical Services, Registered Nurse or physician and in accordance with the legal scope of competency and within established standards of care, policies and procedures assists the physician during surgical procedures by performing scrub duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply standard precautions and maintain a safe environment for self and others.
  • Observe patient/family conditions and report sudden changes or unusual findings to the Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrate competencies during the probationary period and ongoing by completion of departmental competency validation.
  • Transport patients, equipment, supplies, and specimens throughout the medical center using proper body mechanics.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement activities, including planning, measuring/monitoring, assessing, and improving.
  • Assemble and ensure all equipment/supplies/instruments are appropriate, available, calibrated, and adjusted, in working order, sterilized per protocol, and organized for upcoming procedures.
  • Set up and organize the room.
  • Perform scrub role (e.g., anticipate surgeon's needs, pass instruments, cut sutures, hold retractors, obtain/process tissue samples) according to standard.
  • Assist physician within scope of competency.
  • Assist with transfer, transport, and stabilization of patient within the scope of competency.
  • Clean instruments, containers, and equipment according to established guidelines and reassemble packs, prepare for sterilization, and/or return to Central Processing.
  • Operate sterilization equipment.
  • Operate equipment safely and report defective equipment upon discovery.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Utilize computer systems effectively and efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Experience: One (1) year within the last three years operating room scrubbing or equivalent military experience, including a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Education: Graduate of approved surgical technologist or military equivalent program.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Surgical Technologist Certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assistants (NBSTSA) and/or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); BLS.
  • Willingness to travel between our 3 Southern California locations.
