Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Axcelis Technologies is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of highly mechanized and automated capital equipment for the semiconductor industry. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges facing ion implanters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop new and innovative solutions for existing and future ion implanters.
  • Ensure adherence to the development process, including requirements planning, schedule estimates, concept reviews, design reviews, verification, and validation test plans.
  • Monitor progress of projects, confer with program and project engineers, and review reports to ensure development is progressing according to schedule and within budgetary guidelines.
  • Manage the mechanical engineering interface to the design services group and to offshore teams to deliver quality designs and on-time performance.
  • Communicate to customers and cross-functional groups the status of various development projects, ensuring that products and projects are delivered to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  • Hold mechanical engineers accountable to quality goals, schedules, development process, and system performance.
  • Ensure mechanical designs meet design objectives, as well as safety, industry (SEMI), and customer-specific requirements.
  • Execute design, qualification, and release of mechanical assemblies, with experience in semiconductor capital equipment a plus.
  • Troubleshoot, find root cause, and recommend corrective actions to system-level problems that cross multiple engineering disciplines.
Qualifications:
  • Accomplished mechanical engineer capable of contributing to technical design.
  • Practical experience with the design, manufacture, and service of highly automated electromechanical systems.
  • Unrelenting drive for understanding the fundamental physics behind complex system components.
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Solid technical background to understand, communicate, and make decisions to improve the overall product and mechanical architecture.
  • Experience working with offshore teams a benefit.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Experience with a PLM system, specifically PTC/Windchill a plus.
  • 3D modeling and FEA analysis skills, with knowledge of PTC/Creo and Ansys a plus.
  • BSME (MSME preferred).
  • 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
