Position Overview: The PreOp/PACU RN is responsible for delivering exceptional patient care through the application of the nursing process, adherence to medical care plans, and compliance with organizational protocols. This role involves providing safe, effective, and patient-centered care throughout the perioperative journey for diverse patient populations.
Preoperative Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the admission process for patients entering the preoperative department.
- Conduct thorough health assessments to confirm patient readiness and verify identification wristbands.
- Ensure all operative and informed consents are properly executed.
- Identify the surgeon and the specific procedure to be performed.
- Record and monitor vital signs to assess patient readiness for surgery.
- Initiate intravenous access and provide patients with information regarding the procedure and attending medical personnel.
- Evaluate patients' conditions following surgical interventions.
- Monitor vital signs to ensure they remain within acceptable limits.
- Document all findings accurately in patient records.
- Address patient inquiries and maintain their comfort during recovery.
- Oversee intravenous therapy and ensure all related protocols are followed.
- Develop tailored care plans based on individual patient assessments.
- Ensure nursing activities align with established patient care plans.
- Monitor for any changes in patient conditions and communicate findings to the physician.
- Implement educational programs for patients and families regarding procedures and medications.
- Assess patient readiness for transfer to recovery rooms.
- Respond to post-operative emergencies with appropriate interventions.
- Record sedation levels and body temperature as part of ongoing assessments.
- Manage blood and fluid transfusions and collect specimens as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the post-operative environment.
- Change dressings and care for surgical wounds.

Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse license without restrictions in the state.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in PreOp/PACU or Critical Care settings.
- Prior experience in an ambulatory surgical center is highly preferred.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures and patient management.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques and their application.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing patient conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills with staff, patients, and physicians.
