Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Construction/Maintenance Worker II to join our team at York County, VA. As a key member of our Public Works - Administration department, you will be responsible for performing heavy manual work in the maintenance of County drainage ways and their associated structures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain drainage systems and re-construct drainage ways as needed
  • Observe and detect illicit discharges at outfalls as part of the County VSMP (Virginia Stormwater Management Permit)
  • Assist with the collection of storm debris
  • Perform supervisory duties in the absence of the supervisor, including assigning and directing the activities of a small group of employees
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent with experience operating hand and power tools and some supervisory experience required
  • Ability to interpret and read maps and drawings of drainage easements
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory
  • Safety shoes required
  • Requires an acceptable criminal background check
Working Conditions

Work is performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions with exposure to the usual hazards associated with outside maintenance and construction work.

Physical Demands
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of hand and power tools
  • Must be able to lift between 50 and 100 pounds
  • Must be able to operate and carry gas powered motorized equipment for the better part of a work day
