Landfill Attendant

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Landfill Attendant to join our team at Gaston County, NC. As a key member of our Solid Waste & Recycling Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient disposal of municipal solid waste.

• Perform tire stacking duties, laying tires inside a tractor trailer and completing related paperwork.
• Process recyclables at the baling facility and assist with Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) events.
• Inspect and clean heavy equipment radiators, as well as clean landfill vehicles inside and out.
• Collect recyclables from recycling/convenience sites and deliver them to the landfill as needed.
• Pull unacceptable waste items/recyclables from the municipal solid waste (MSW) and construction and demolition (C&D) working face daily.
• Perform landscaping tasks, including mowing, trimming weeds, and edging, as well as cleaning around curbs in front of the landfill.
• Gather litter throughout the job site and assemble/maintain litter fences.
• Fuel all heavy equipment daily and control traffic flow by flagging to assist customers when scales are down.
• Control dust by distributing water on haul roads and mix/applying alternate daily cover material to the landfill daily.
• Ensure supplies are stocked in the scale and perform other duties as assigned, including carpentry and general maintenance.

• Completion of eighth grade; high school or GED preferred.
• Valid North Carolina Driver's License, without driving restrictions.
• Ability to work varying schedules, including weekends.
• Ability to work in an environment that exposes the employee to unfavorable health and weather conditions.
