Job Title: Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist to join our team at West Hawaii Community Health Center. The successful candidate will provide counseling and mental health services to patients in the marital and family context.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide marital and family counseling services, including relationship, premarital, separation, divorce, and child counseling.
  • Gather and analyze information on family members through various methods, including observation, interviews, self-report inventories, group discussions, and/or formal assessments.
  • Identify problematic behavioral, communication, and relationship patterns and collaborate with the family to develop plans to positively manage and respond to issues.
  • Assist patients in developing new or strengthened communication skills and methods and provide expert insight on how family dynamics affect psychological health.
  • Diagnose and apply appropriate treatments for psychological disorders and identify and provide appropriate psychotherapy for individuals, couples, and/or the entire family.
  • Collaborate with patients to develop and implement post-treatment activity plans and refer patients to appropriate internal or external providers and/or resources for further treatment or assistance.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records regarding case progress, evaluations, and any further treatment recommendations.

Requirements:

  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited educational institution in marriage and family therapy or an allied field related to the practice of mental health counseling.
  • Valid Hawai'i Marriage and Family Therapist license required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience preferred.

Work Environment: The work environment is usually moderate, with no known environmental hazards on the premises. Work environment is often stressful, and incumbent will be exposed to patients' conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells, and contagious diseases.

Equipment Use: Frequent use of telephone system and office equipment, including but not limited to computer, printer, facsimile machine, copier, and general office supplies.

OSHA: This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues; normal medical safety precautions and practices are required.

Work Hours: Eight to ten-hour workdays. Overtime may be required.

Mental Demands: Duties require attention to detail, alertness, problem-solving, tolerance to stress, and exercising sound judgment. Duties require high tolerance and adequate coping skills for dealing with loss, grief, and bereavement.
