Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Operator to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a Maintenance Operator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient maintenance of our roadways and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and tractors, to perform road maintenance tasks such as clearing drainage pipes and ditches, cutting brush, and patching potholes.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts, including snow and ice removal, and other hazardous road conditions.
  • Prepare and clean up work zones, and perform traffic control.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections and perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Work safely and effectively in a team environment, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Valid CDL and applicable endorsements.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment and performing manual labor.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and respond to emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Knowledge of road maintenance equipment, materials, and methods.
  • Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment.
Additional Considerations
  • Recent experience with heavy manual labor and heavy equipment operation.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment in emergency operations, including snow removal and storm response.
  • Flagger certification and work zone set-up experience.
