About the Department:
The Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Earth Sciences (AOES) is dedicated to being a leading center for impactful research, aligning with Mason's Research I university classification. Our faculty and students engage in rigorous investigations addressing critical issues, disseminating findings across both academic and public domains. The department offers undergraduate programs in Geology and Atmospheric Sciences, Master’s degrees in Earth Systems Science and Climate Science, and a Ph.D. in Climate Dynamics. About the Position:
This NSF-funded postdoctoral project investigates the influence of various boundary conditions on hydroclimate patterns in the tropics since the Last Glacial Maximum. The research approach integrates isotope-enabled coupled climate model simulations, paleoclimate data compilation, and proxy system models. The postdoctoral research fellow will collaborate closely with researchers from leading institutions.
Responsibilities:
- Execute climate model simulations and interpret climate model outputs;
- Compile and synthesize paleoclimate data;
- Integrate climate model outputs with paleoclimate data and proxy system models;
- Lead the preparation of publications for peer-reviewed journals;
- Present research findings at academic conferences.
Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in a relevant field;
- Ph.D. in Earth sciences, climate dynamics, atmospheric sciences, geography, or a closely related discipline;
- Experience in analyzing climate model outputs;
- Strong analytical skills, creativity, and self-motivation;
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, NCL, or R;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with running CESM or CAM is highly desirable;
- Familiarity with academic publishing is preferred.
