Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional patient care by offering clear and understandable instructions, and follow-up to resolve any patient questions or needs.
  • Assist with administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing.
  • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk, depending on their preference.
  • Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services at checkout.
  • Understand and apply the principles of service recovery to ensure the UPMC Experience meets patient expectations.
  • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and connect them to advocacy resources as needed.
  • Obtain patient or family member signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility, adhering to HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Verify insurance benefits with carriers using online systems or phone inquiries.
  • Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration when applicable.
  • Collect copayments and other patient payments at the point of service.
  • Provide a warm greeting to all patients.
  • Register patients in the Biometrics program and explain its benefits.
  • Confirm and update patient registration information at checkout.
  • Triage phone calls to other areas and/or clinical providers.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice at checkout.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, office equipment, and proficient typing skills are preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems are preferred.
Clearances and Certifications

Act 34 clearance is required.
