Job Summary

Aircraft Avionics Mechanic (Avionics Systems Specialist) at Amentum

Key Responsibilities
  • Avionics System Maintenance: Adjust, repair, and/or replace electrical wiring and aircraft system avionics to ensure optimal performance.
  • Aircraft Component Maintenance: Maintain and repair aircraft components, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
  • Inspections and Troubleshooting: Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, and troubleshoot malfunctions in aircraft systems.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation, such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft, and verify the work was performed satisfactorily. May lead teams through complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Record Keeping: Make entries in aircraft logs and records, and prioritize workload to maintain schedules on assigned projects.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Three years aviation maintenance experience, two years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned Mission Design Series (MDS) required.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of aircraft avionics systems, troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts. Thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools. Working knowledge of avionics systems, including maintenance parameters, systems operations, limitations, and technical orders.
  • Certifications and Clearances: Valid up-to-date A&P license preferred but not required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI(T1) Public Trust Security Clearance.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Frequently lifts parts and equipment up to 25 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in Aircraft maintenance hangar that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • Environmental Factors: May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
