Job Title: ESL Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified ESL Teacher to join our team at the Alabama Department of Education. The successful candidate will be responsible for accelerating the learning of English and academic content in math, language arts, science, and social studies for limited English proficient students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess LEP students K-12 for ESL Program eligibility and implement procedures as prescribed in manuals and written communication.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation on every LEP student and make recommendations to general education staff about accommodations and adaptations.
  • Provide ESL instruction to classes, small groups, and individual students, and monitor EL's progress in all aspects of their academic schedule.
  • Serve as a liaison between EL, their family, and the school, and provide cross-cultural information to foster positive relationships.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities to enhance knowledge of mainstream curriculum and issues related to ELL.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Education
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition, research, and program models
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with staff
Evaluation:

Evaluation is conducted by the principal.
