Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Animal Care Technician to join our team at the Vanderburgh County Humane Society. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care and attention to the animals in our shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cleanliness and Sanitation
    • Clean and maintain the kennels and facilities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the animals.
    • Ensure that all areas are clean and sanitized, including kennels, grooming rooms, and public areas.
  • Animal Care and Enrichment
    • Provide animals with adequate food and water on a daily basis.
    • Observe animals to ensure proper feeding and report any signs of illness or behavior problems.
    • Socialize and provide optimum enrichment for all animals, including daily walking and playtime.
  • Grooming and Hygiene
    • Clean and maintain grooming rooms and equipment.
    • Ensure that all animals receive regular grooming and hygiene care, including nail trimming, ear cleaning, and bathing.
  • Laundry and Housekeeping
    • Maintain a clean and organized laundry room and ensure that all laundry is done in a timely manner.
    • Keep public areas clean and tidy, including the reception area and adoption floor.
  • Communication and Teamwork
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and management to ensure that all animal care needs are met.
    • Work collaboratively with other team members to achieve common goals and provide exceptional animal care.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • Previous animal handling experience is preferred.
    • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work Conditions
    • Work in a high noise level area and be exposed to cleaning agents, fumes, animal feces, bites, scratches, extreme heat and cold.
    • Physical efforts require constant bending, standing, and frequent lifting up to 75 pounds with reasonable accommodation.
