Job Summary:

The City of San Luis Obispo is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Parking Enforcement Officer I. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for enforcing parking regulations, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring the smooth operation of our parking systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and provide verbal warnings as needed.
  • Check parking meters and pay stations for proper operation, making minor repairs or replacing meters as necessary.
  • Provide information to the public on parking laws, regulations, and ordinances, while maintaining a high level of customer service.
  • Monitor parking spaces used by construction projects, ensuring contractors pay for spaces as required.
  • Locate and identify vehicles registered to habitual parking offenders, initiating tow procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Parking Services Manager and supervisory staff to implement changes or improvements to metered spaces or special purpose zones.
  • Act as a liaison between the public and the City, providing excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Testify in court as required.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience involving frequent public contact, preferably in customer service or hospitality.
  • Valid California class C driver's license and satisfactory driving record required.
