Parks Laborer

This is a maintenance position within the Parks and Recreation Department. Work involves the maintenance and care of parks, playgrounds, cemeteries, and related areas.

• Performs building, special ground, horticulture, and general maintenance including mowing, trimming, weeding, and irrigation; caring for plants and trees; maintaining ice rinks, baseball and softball fields, public shelters and related structures.
• Performs general maintenance activities in and around city facilities such as the cemetery, City Hall, the Library, and the Marion Triangle.
• Operates a variety of equipment including mowers, sprayers, leaf mulchers, and motor vehicles.
• Assists in snow shoveling and blowing as necessary.
• Performs related work as required.

• Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
• Ability to maintain and care for the city's equipment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the general public.
• Physical strength and ability to work outdoors under occasional adverse weather conditions.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and the necessary safety precautions.
