Position Overview:

The Nurse Midwife is responsible for delivering comprehensive maternity care and guidance to expectant mothers. This includes managing all aspects of pregnancy, labor, comfort techniques, pain alleviation, delivery, cesarean sections, postpartum care, infant care, and providing essential tools for childbirth. The role encompasses overseeing the medical care of patients throughout the maternity continuum, which includes antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and gynecological stages. The Nurse Midwife will provide age-appropriate and specialty-specific patient assessments, treatments, education, consultations, and follow-ups. Adherence to ambulatory care and inpatient standardized protocols, policies, and procedures as mandated by the State of California Nurse Practice Act is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

EDUCATION:

Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

Master's degree in nursing.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.

Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) certification.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.

Additional certifications may be required based on departmental needs.

DEPARTMENTAL CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES:

Completion of Nurse Midwife Furnishing within 90 days.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Proven expertise and technical proficiency in managing the medical care of pregnant patients, including a thorough understanding of community resources and referral systems, as well as basic sonography skills.

Knowledge of intervention strategies related to high-risk prenatal situations and crisis management.

Familiarity with substance abuse and diabetes programs, alongside standard Perinatal Education offerings.

Strong analytical and project management abilities, with a focus on problem-solving and implementing effective changes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey medical information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences.

Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, laboratory information systems (LIS), and electronic health records (EHR) management.

Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills.

Capability to influence and collaborate with individuals or groups holding differing viewpoints.
