Job Overview

Position Purpose:
This role involves daily monitoring and fundamental operations of plants and pump/booster stations, conducting routine laboratory tests, and performing basic corrective and preventive maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate equipment manually and via instrumentation panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units in accordance with process control procedures. Monitor operating conditions, document observations, and address basic operational issues as per established protocols.
- Conduct routine cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, inspection, and minor repairs on machinery and related equipment, including pumps, engines, and valves. Document work performed and report any operational issues to the Lead or Supervisor.
- Collect samples of water, wastewater, and other materials as scheduled. Perform field tests to determine chemical dosages for process and odor control, and manage chemical supplies.
- Execute routine laboratory tests and prepare reports following established procedures.
- Calibrate portable meters for various measurements, including dissolved oxygen and pH levels.
- Develop proficiency in mechanical troubleshooting, dismantling equipment to repair defective parts, and reassembling to restore safe and efficient operation.
- Perform manual labor, including cleaning equipment and facilities, and ensure proper waste disposal in compliance with safety and environmental policies.
- Carry out facility maintenance tasks, such as replacing light fixtures and repairing damaged structures.
- Assist in estimating time and material costs for various projects and may support other areas of the facility as directed.
Work Environment:
- Primarily operates in an operational environment.
- May spend a portion of time outdoors, occasionally in inclement weather.
- Travel may be required for company training.
- May be subject to rotational 24-hour emergency on-call duties.
- Potential exposure to operational hazards, including fumes, chemicals, and noise.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with the ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions.
- Six months to two years of relevant experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Familiarity with material handling equipment and precision measuring instruments.
- Experience with hand and power tools is advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret data from various equipment.
- Capability to diagnose routine mechanical issues and implement corrective actions.
- Basic computer skills for process control and maintenance management systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Willingness to be on-call for emergencies as required.
Certifications and Training:
- Minimum water/wastewater license as mandated by regulatory agencies.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Completion of required safety and operational training.
- HAZWOPER certification may be necessary.
- Training in the use of personal protective equipment and other site-specific safety protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Close visual and auditory observation skills are essential.
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- May require working at heights and in confined spaces.
