Camp Counselor Job Description

At the YMCA of the North, we are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Camp Counselor to join our summer team. As a Camp Counselor, you will be responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs for children in a small group setting.

About the Role:

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp.
  • Apply Social Emotional Learning concepts and basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.
  • Ability to communicate and work with groups (all ages and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers.
  • Maintain high standards for health and mental health in all activities for campers.

Requirements:

  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED certification.
  • Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities with all age levels.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
