Position Overview:

The Senior Analyst - Power Settlement Operations will report directly to the Senior Manager of Power Settlements and will oversee processes associated with power settlement activities. This role is crucial in ensuring that all settlement functions related to accrual, actualization, reconciliation, and payment are executed accurately and promptly. Key responsibilities include the calculation, analysis, and reporting of power gross margins. This position requires collaboration with various departments such as Supply, Risk, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Accounting, and Finance to identify and rectify issues, assist with cash forecasting and variance analysis, and meet settlement obligations with ISOs and other counterparties. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the Retail Energy and wholesale market processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive support across all functions (settlements, month-end closing, balance sheet reconciliation) within the Settlements team.
  • Oversee the management of the option transaction registry.
  • Offer expertise and a thorough understanding of ISO regulations for ERCOT, PJM, NYISO, MISO, ISONE, AESO, and IESO, with a preference for ERCOT.
  • Establish and uphold procedures to guarantee that all ISO invoices are reconciled, processed, and paid promptly.
  • Conduct detailed analyses of variances between actual and projected gross margins.
  • Deliver in-depth variance analysis between estimated and actual energy costs, providing constructive feedback to the Trading team.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Planning to ensure the accuracy of gross margin forecasts.
  • Identify opportunities for optimization and cost savings, enhancing transparency in power costs.
  • Engage with external counterparties to resolve discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with internal partners, including Legal, Supply Team, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury, and Finance as necessary.
  • Utilize actual settled data to provide insights to the Structuring team and assist in refining retail pricing models.
  • Collaborate with various teams across the organization to enhance processes and systems supporting the aforementioned activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.

Qualifications and Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting from an accredited institution; a master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the retail energy sector, with familiarity in ISO operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO regulations and charge types to provide guidance to the team and address inquiries from leadership, particularly in the ERCOT market.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage remote teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with ETRM/CTRM systems.
  • A business-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and the ability to implement effective processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and business partners.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills, capable of managing multiple assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced business environment.
  • Organized individual capable of planning and adjusting to the timing challenges of multiple deadlines.
  • Collaborate within a team to achieve departmental and organizational goals.
  • Some travel may be required.
