Job Summary

Mary Cariola Children's Center is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop Rapport with Residents: Build strong relationships with each resident to understand their unique needs and preferences.
  • Conduct Regular Health Assessments: Physically examine and determine the health status of all residents on a regular basis.
  • Monitor Communicable Diseases: Identify and manage the spread of communicable diseases and infections.
  • Accurately Document Resident Information: Complete all required documentation practices using the PrecisionCare software and in written form, when necessary.
  • Assess Resident Self-Medication Skills: Annually assess each resident's ability to self-medicate and develop appropriate objectives.
  • Develop and Maintain Medical Protocols: Aide in developing and maintaining all necessary medical, health, and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Coordinate Medical Services: Coordinate all medical/health-related services, make service reports, and maintain effective communication with healthcare providers.
  • Review and Record Medical Orders: Review and record monthly doctors' orders and MAR sheets.
  • Administer Medications: Administer medically prescribed medications to residents and follow up on all medication errors.
  • Maintain Medical Supplies: Maintain the medical cabinet with all medically approved medications, supplies, and equipment.
  • Communicate with Nursing Staff: Maintain ongoing and effective communication with the nursing staff at each resident's school/day program.
  • Implement Medical Procedures: Help ensure that all medical, health, and safety procedures are implemented as written.
  • Monitor Staff Health Testing: Monitor and maintain accurate data on staff required health testing mandated by the Department of Health.
  • Attend Appointments and Hospitalizations: Attend appointments and all hospitalization discharges for residents or coordinate RN coverage when not available.
  • Provide Training and Education: Aide in providing teaching of the NYS OPWDD Medication Administration Course to residential staff.
  • Oversee Medication Administration: Oversee AMAPs and the DSP II Medical Liaison in medication administration responsibilities.
  • Schedule In-Service Training: Help schedule and provide in-service training sessions for residential staff.
  • Maintain Certification: Maintain CPR and First Aid Instructor certification.
  • Participate in Team Meetings: Participate as an active member on the Residential Safety Committee and the Residential Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Review Incident Reports: Review all Incident Reports and provide necessary medical attention and follow-up to injuries.
  • Adhere to On-Call Schedule: Adhere to a rotating on-call schedule for triage and notification purposes.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing: Associate's degree from a two-year college or university in Nursing.
  • NYS RN Licensure: Certified by NYS as a Registered Nurse.
  • English Language Proficiency: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Valid Driver's License: Possess a current and valid NYS driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Lifting Ability: Be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Nursing.
  • Related Experience: One to two years related experience and/or training.
  • Experience with Developmental Disabilities: Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities.
Certifications and Trainings
  • NYS RN Licensure: Must maintain NYS RN Licensure.
  • NYS Medication Administration and OPWDD Nursing Certification: NYS Medication Administration and OPWDD Nursing Certification.
