Job Summary:

This position supports attorneys in the Transactions practice group by conducting research and handling real estate matters, closings, and post-closing procedures. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of prior real estate experience in a law firm or lender setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain title commitments and request title reports or certificates of title from abstract companies; review title reports; draft title objection letters; analyze surveys; and draft title commitments.
  • Communicate with buyers, sellers, realtors, lenders, appraisers, surveyors, insurance companies, title abstract and title insurance companies, taxing authorities, homeowners associations, attorneys, court personnel, and other individuals and entities to obtain necessary information for commercial real estate transactions.
  • Schedule loan closings and review closing packets received from mortgage companies; prepare closing documents, including closing statements, affidavits, tax information statements, payoff letters, representation letters, deeds, assignments of contracts, deeds of trusts, and financing statements; participate in closings; arrange for deposits of loan proceeds and disburse all funds; file deeds, deeds of trust, and UCCs with appropriate authorities; request title updates; receive title updates and issue title policies; and assist closing attorneys with all aspects of transactions.
  • Request title updates and receive same from abstract companies; receive reports and draft updated certificates of title or endorsements to title policies to lenders.
  • Occasionally research land records.
  • Track real estate transactions throughout the year for 1099S reporting; complete 1099 Information Sheets and submit to reporting services.
  • Draft real-estate-related documents, such as notices of foreclosure, lien notices, authorities to cancel, etc.
Supervision Received and/or Given:
  • Occasionally work on projects for attorneys other than supervising attorney.
  • Work closely with office manager on funds received and disbursed through trust accounts.
  • Work on monthly reporting to title insurance companies on policies issued and opening of new files.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
  • 5 years prior real estate experience in a law firm or lender setting.
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
  • College Degree
  • Paralegal Certificate
  • Notary
Working Conditions:

This position requires sitting for long periods of time while operating a computer. At times, employees are required to work in excess of the normal work schedule, particularly during real estate closings. Employees in this position must be mobile, have the ability to bend, and have the ability to lift and carry files weighing approximately 10-15 lbs.
