Metalcraft of Mayville is a leading manufacturer of precision metal components, seeking a skilled Laser Operator to join our team in Mayville, WI. As a key member of our fabrication team, you will be responsible for the daily setup and operation of our Amada and Mitsubishi NC/NCL lasers, as well as our Messer Plasma system.
Responsibilities
• Perform setups and operations on Amada and Mitsubishi NC/NCL Lasers and Messer Plasma, ensuring high-quality results and meeting production deadlines.
• Check material thickness for accuracy and load material, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
• De-nest and remove laser oxide from parts/Plasma, adhering to quality control standards.
• Perform assigned work to time standards and quality expectations, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
• Train others on set-up and operation of Laser/Plasma, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the team.
• Identify and solve machine alignment and cut condition problems, collaborating with maintenance and engineering teams as needed.
• Troubleshoot minor program errors independently, utilizing problem-solving skills and technical expertise.
• Apply basic understanding of G and M code, ensuring accurate programming and setup of laser systems.
• Cross-train across multiple laser platforms and cells, expanding your skill set and contributing to team flexibility.
• Account for time and work completed via online computer data collection system, maintaining accurate records and reports.
• Safely operate a forklift to handle materials and complete work, adhering to company safety standards and protocols.
• Make routine decisions and use problem-solving to resolve basic manufacturing issues, demonstrating initiative and autonomy.
• Report and document basic material, production, and quality control issues, ensuring transparency and accountability within the team.
• Maintain performance log books on assigned area equipment, reporting deficiencies to the maintenance team and promoting proactive maintenance.
• Participate in equipment preventative maintenance at the operator level, contributing to the overall efficiency and reliability of our production processes.
• Ensure compliance with corporate and plant safety standards, upholding a culture of safety and responsibility within the organization.
Qualifications
• Previous experience working within a highly technical environment, with a strong orientation towards quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired, but not required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members and communicate with management.
• Strong Laser or CNC operating background, with a focus on precision and accuracy.
• Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
• Demonstrated competency in basic shop math, with the ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-world problems.
• Ability to understand and apply knowledge of "G" and "M" codes, with applicable computer skills and experience with programming languages.
• Demonstrated blueprint reading capability, with the ability to interpret and apply technical drawings and specifications.
• Ability to operate a forklift, with a focus on safety and efficiency.
• Ability to efficiently work in a team and coordinate work with other departments, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
• Aptitude to take orders and execute tasks efficiently, with a focus on quality and productivity.
• Demonstrated detail orientation, self-motivation skills, and ability to multi-task, with a focus on meeting deadlines and achieving goals.
• A High School diploma or GED Equivalent, with a strong foundation in math and science.
