Role Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) acts as a caregiver for residents during scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This role involves delivering resident-focused nursing care and assisting with daily living activities under the guidance of a registered nurse (RN).

Possessing knowledge of age-appropriate care, the CNA addresses both the physical and emotional needs of residents according to their individualized care plans.

As a vital member of the nursing team, the CNA is responsible for adhering to infection control protocols and utilizing Personal Protective Equipment as required.

Responsibilities include assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs, while also providing emotional support and personal care to residents.

The CNA aids residents in mobility, utilizing proper techniques and equipment for transfers and exercises.

The role also encompasses meal preparation and dining assistance, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for residents. The CNA supports residents during meals and provides hydration and nutritional supplements as needed.

The CNA collaborates with nursing staff on procedures and documents resident interactions and care outcomes. Communication of any changes in residents' conditions or care concerns to the charge nurse is essential. The role includes collecting non-invasive specimens and vital signs, maintaining cleanliness in living areas, and assisting with wellness and recreational activities. Participation in departmental committees may also be required.

Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old. Previous experience in long-term care settings is advantageous.


Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) from the State Board of Nursing is required, or candidates must obtain certification within four months of employment by enrolling in a training program.

CNA training and certification will be provided by the facility.

Annual competency testing and continuing education credits are mandatory, with a minimum of 12 hours required each year. All necessary certifications must be maintained.

In certain states, registration with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry may be required.

Depending on facility needs, this position may require a valid driver's license and proof of medical qualifications for driving tasks.
