Deputy Sheriff Custodial

Stanislaus County is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Correctional Deputy to join our team. As a Correctional Deputy, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of incarcerated individuals, as well as maintaining order and discipline within the facility.

The Correctional Deputy will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including receiving, booking, and releasing incarcerated individuals, maintaining order and discipline, and supervising the daily activities of incarcerated individuals. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of modern detention facility techniques, as well as the ability to think clearly and make sound judgments in emergency situations.

• Receives, books, searches, attends to, and releases incarcerated individuals
• Maintains order and discipline among incarcerated individuals
• Types booking slips, head-count rosters, incident reports, and other forms as required
• Serves civil process papers
• Serves as a hospital guard
• Inspects sanitation and oversees the feeding of incarcerated individuals
• Supervises the daily activities of incarcerated individuals
• Analyzes situations accurately and adopts an effective course of action quickly
• Escorts and transports incarcerated individuals to and from the clinic, court, hospital, and State institutions
• Serves as storekeeper and issues daily supplies
• Appoints and supervises trustees
• Makes arrests pursuant to Penal Code Section 830.1 (c)

• Graduation from high school or passage of high school level General Education Development (GED) test
• Must meet the minimum standards for peace officers pursuant to Government Code Section 1031
• Successfully complete the Stanislaus County arrest and firearms training courses pursuant to 832 PC (as prescribed by POST) and the jail operations course pursuant to 6035 PC (as prescribed by Corrections Standards Authority) within twelve (12) months from the date of employment
• Physical/manipulative abilities required by the department
• Mental/cognitive abilities required by the department
• Must be of good moral character and must not have been convicted of a crime for which the punishment could have been imprisonment in a Federal penitentiary or a State prison
• Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License
• Not less than 21 years of age at time of appointment
• Must possess or be eligible to possess a Proof of Eligibility (POE) or certificate (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced) from California Peace Officer Standards and Training under SB 2
• Must be currently employed in a California Adult Detention agency with at least one (1) year of full-time experience as a correctional deputy in a California Adult Detention agency
• Must have your Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) training certificate or Adult Corrections Officer CORE academy or supplemental with documentation to substantiate your eligibility

The Correctional Deputy will work in a fast-paced environment with a high level of stress and pressure. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in an environment that is often hostile, unpredictable, and occasionally unpleasant.
