Job SummaryThe Process Engineer will support AMVAC's chemical manufacturing operations at our Los Angeles plant, which operates 24x7 and provides key ingredients for our customers worldwide.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Support and Process Optimization: Provide technical support and make improvements to operations through troubleshooting and process optimization of manufacturing units (batch & continuous).
- Process Safety Management (PSM) Support: Support plant PSM systems; coordinate & facilitate PSM audits and ensure compliance.
- PSM Field Activities: Coordinate PSM field activities through Process Unit leaders and conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).
- PHA Compliance and Reporting: Conduct and Track PHA compliance, lead reviews, and manage Process Hazard Analysis reporting.
- Risk Management: Oversee Risk Management to ensure compliance with USEPA RMP & state CALARP regulations.
- Emergency Response Planning: Assist with Emergency Response planning and reporting.
- Corrective Action Response: Track and report on Corrective Action response and recommendations.
- Production Improvement: Proactively seek ways to improve production rates, yields, quality, and costs.
- Process Design and Documentation: Develop P&IDs; PFDs and oversee simulation and process design.
- Engineering Documentation: Provide engineering documentation for sizing of process equipment, i.e., pumps, control valves, and relief valves.
- Instrumentation and Capital Projects: Assist on instrumentation specifications and selection; capital projects and plant start-ups.
- Troubleshooting and Quality: Troubleshoot any processing, quality, or equipment abnormalities.
- R&D Collaboration: Work with the R&D group to translate and develop new process designs into plant production and assist with environmental compliance requirements.
- Equipment Specifications and Approval: Review equipment approval drawings; vendor documents and other documentation provided from other disciplines.
- Capital Project Estimates: Writes campaign summaries and technical reports and prepare capital project estimates.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all regulatory safety requirements and with all regulatory environmental requirements.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineer (BS ChE) required.
- Experience: 5+ years' experience in a PSM-regulated chemical manufacturing plant with a broad technical understanding of plant operations.
- PSM and PHA Experience: 2+ years conducting and overseeing PHA methodologies & Process Safety Management in a specialty chemical manufacturing setting.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of Process Design, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), and Heat Exchange systems.
- Leadership and Communication: Ability to work as a team member as well as independently; excellent communication written and verbal; report writing and tracking.
- Computer Skills: Computer skills including EXCEL, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
