Role Overview

Are you passionate about securing products that have a significant global influence? In the capacity of a Product Security Specialist, you will spearhead security and vulnerability evaluations in partnership with the product team, ensuring the secure launch of Splunk's offerings. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Product Security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct threat modeling and serve as a liaison for the product team to identify insecure design patterns and threats within Splunk's offerings, performing security design assessments of distributed systems, APIs, and hybrid cloud solutions.
  • Lead vulnerability assessments for engineering teams, assisting in the remediation of security issues and active incidents while proactively providing strategic recommendations.
  • Support development teams by offering security consultation services and becoming a subject matter expert for your designated products.
Essential Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a security engineering role, holding a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or 3+ years of experience with a Master's degree.
  • Proven experience in threat modeling, security assessments, product security principles, and security architecture code reviews.
  • Ability to facilitate security design discussions, conduct threat assessments, and propose solutions related to security tools, CI/CD pipeline modifications, and penetration testing relevant to your focus area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective remediation techniques for various application vulnerabilities, with the capability to communicate these to product teams.
  • Expertise in providing practical security guidance for web applications, mobile applications, and hybrid cloud software.
  • In-depth understanding of common security threats, including attack techniques, evasive methods, and preventative and defensive strategies.
  • Familiarity with security features in container and container orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Thorough knowledge of cloud operational models and secure SaaS architecture in a containerized microservices environment.
  • Strong grasp of browser security and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Understanding of web technologies such as React+Redux, GraphQL, and WebSockets.
  • Awareness of compliance requirements for certifications like PCI DSS, SOC2, HIPAA, and FedRAMP.
  • Experience in addressing systemic security challenges through root cause analysis, developing security solutions, and leading projects.
Preferred Qualifications

While the following qualifications are not mandatory, they are considered advantageous:

  • Experience in developing and managing complex security automation tools and CI/CD integration, with familiarity in version control systems (e.g., Git) and deployment of artifacts/libraries.
  • Knowledge of system design patterns.
  • Software development experience, ideally having written production code in an object-oriented language (e.g., Python, Java).
