POSITION SUMMARY

The Forensic Evidence Technician plays a crucial role in the investigative process by performing a variety of forensic and technical tasks. This includes the identification, collection, preservation, packaging, and analysis of evidence found at crime scenes. The technician is responsible for recovering, comparing, and identifying trace evidence and fingerprints.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to successfully undergo a comprehensive background check
  • Willingness to be available for call-outs beyond standard working hours

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing evidence collection and preservation
  • Ability to provide expert testimony in court settings
  • Basic skills in photography
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in computer usage and Microsoft Office applications
  • Flexibility to work in diverse environments

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond promptly to crime scenes as required
  • Collect, preserve, and maintain the integrity of the evidence chain of custody
  • Ensure the safety and security of the Property Room and storage facilities
  • Organize and store evidence on a daily basis
  • Present evidence and maintain chain of custody during court proceedings
  • Document scenes and evidence through photography
  • Process evidence for DNA analysis
  • Manage the delivery and retrieval of evidence from forensic laboratories
  • Conduct research on cases and dispose of evidence in accordance with legal protocols
  • Prepare necessary written reports
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
