Job Overview
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated individual to fulfill the role of Research Associate in the field of agricultural science. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities related to the research and development of grain crop varieties. The successful candidate will engage in various stages of research, from planning and setup to data analysis and publication.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement research trials in both controlled and field environments.
- Manage and analyze data, ensuring accuracy and reliability in results.
- Collaborate with Extension agents, research teams, and stakeholders to disseminate findings.
- Supervise and mentor hourly staff and graduate students involved in research activities.
- Adapt standard research protocols to address emerging challenges in crop science.
- Assist in budget preparation and personnel coordination for research projects.
- Handle financial transactions related to grain crop testing and liaise with seed company representatives.
- Participate in grant management and contribute to research proposal development.
- Attend and represent the program at professional meetings and conferences.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree in crop science, agronomy, or a related discipline, along with practical field research experience is essential for this role.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with knowledge of grain crop management, experience in small plot agronomic research, and a solid understanding of agronomic principles will be favored. The ability to manage multiple projects effectively and interact with diverse groups is crucial. Proficiency in MS Office and statistical analysis software is required.
