Job Title: Court Navigator

Career Overview:
The Center for Alternative is seeking a skilled and compassionate Court Navigator to join our team. As a key point of contact for individuals interacting with the court system, you will provide guidance and support to ensure a seamless and informed experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Support participants in the Intensive Services Unit upon release from their court appearance.
  • Engage with clients to assist in compliance with Supervised Release (SRP) mandates.
  • Provide transitional support for clients to secure connections to programming.
  • Assist clients with systems navigation linkages within the behavioral health, human services, and criminal justice systems as appropriate.
  • Respond to crisis situations and de-escalate client distress.
  • Maintain relationships with human service providers around NYC who are receptive to accepting CASES clients directly from arraignments.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and other court partners.
  • Ensure timely documentation in case records databases.

Qualifications:
  • NYS Certified Peer Specialist or Certified Peer Specialist-Provisional required.
  • At least 2 years of work experience providing peer support to individuals with serious mental illness and criminal justice involvement.
  • Graduate of a recognized peer specialist training program.
  • Lived experience with criminal legal system and mental health and/or substance use recovery.
  • Proficiency with computer and electronic case records.
