Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team at Baltimore County. The successful candidate will provide professional nursing services to individuals, families, and groups in the home, community, and health centers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care, health assessments, health guidance, health education, and referral services to individuals, families, groups, and institutions.
- Administer prescribed medical treatments and emergency care to patients.
- Provide and assist in the provision of patient case management and monitoring.
- Assess and monitor patients' physical and mental states of health and determine need for community-based resources.
- Establish nursing care priorities and coordinate the care with other resources.
- Monitor the progress of the patient care plan.
- Oversee and evaluate home-based services.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
- Assist physicians and others in health clinics.
- Monitor and report on patients' care plan progress.
- Conduct home visits and render preventive nursing care.
- Perform various health screenings.
- Provide health screening education and counseling in the areas of disease prevention, health maintenance, and mental health.
- Participate in the instruction, orientation, and oversight of new public health nurses, nursing assistants, volunteers, and others.
- Prepare and maintain nursing records and reports.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing.
- OR Graduation from an accredited diploma school of nursing plus one-year of professional nursing experience.
- OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate in arts degree in nursing plus two years' professional nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of general nursing principles, practices, procedures, and methods.
- Knowledge of the tools, instruments, and equipment used in nursing.
- Knowledge of current health issues and trends.
- Ability to learn and follow County and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to understand and interpret Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
- Ability to conduct patient case management.
- Ability to oversee and evaluate nursing services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, clients, staff, and other health care providers.
- Ability to draft and maintain records, reports, and other documents.
Working Conditions:
- The work of this classification may include the performance of physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting, the operation of medical equipment and instruments, and travel throughout the County.
- Duties may expose incumbents to various bio-medical hazards.
