It is essential to report any issues to management and assist in the effective use of tools, equipment, and materials. Adherence to WFS site security protocols for the warehouse and other operations is mandatory. Awareness of the activities of WFS staff, security personnel, and visitors is crucial, and any security violations or suspicious activities must be reported to management or through the WFS whistleblower program. This position operates under a collective bargaining agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Load and unload cargo from aircraft, handling items weighing up to 70 lbs. within confined cargo spaces, and maneuver loaded containers weighing up to 3,200 lbs. on rollers to and from aircraft.
  • Operate vehicles ranging from 3,000 to 80,000 lbs. in congested areas, navigating around aircraft and other vehicles while ensuring safe positioning near aircraft.
  • Assist in the push-out of aircraft by driving an 80,000 lb. vehicle or guiding the driver using depth perception in crowded environments.
  • Transport cargo to and from aircraft using a 3,000 lb. vehicle, utilizing depth perception to navigate through busy areas and reading off-load sheets for cargo destinations.
  • Communicate effectively with the cockpit during push-back procedures using hand signals and voice commands, both visually and audibly.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills with team members and customers.
  • Work effectively in a high-noise environment.
  • Understand and respond to verbal commands and safety alerts, with or without visual aids.
  • Handle baggage weighing up to 70 lbs. onto or from conveyor belts.
  • Connect and disconnect water hoses and overhead electric cables to and from aircraft.
  • Perform de-icing of aircraft at heights, applying glycol to wings and fuselage.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Note: This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with the Transport Workers Union (TWU), which requires membership and payment of union dues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English fluently.
  • Ability to provide clear directions and information to passengers.
  • Respond effectively to customer inquiries.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor while addressing repetitive customer questions.
  • Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to identify and report unauthorized personnel in secured areas.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Capability to lift items weighing up to 70 pounds (31.9 kg).
  • Ability to perform tasks in various weather and environmental conditions, including exposure to jet engine fumes and noise.
  • Engage in physical activities such as twisting, bending, and reaching while handling baggage.
  • Maintain mobility throughout the shift.
  • Willingness to wear the designated uniform and insignia.
  • Present a professional appearance and grooming to uphold the corporate image.
  • Ability to accurately judge distances.
