We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Inspector to join our Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in Columbia, SC. As a Senior Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and safety of transportation projects for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in District 1.
Responsibilities:- Monitor construction activities and document observations on required reports and forms.
- Review construction materials for compliance with contract and specification requirements.
- Inspect roadways and structures to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
- Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts, and structural operations such as foundation excavation.
- Verify lines, grades, dimensions, and elevations using survey and field engineering equipment.
- Perform accurate calculations and computations.
- Sample and test construction materials to ensure they meet quality requirements.
- Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications.
- Document and report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
- Above-average math and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to adapt to new technologies and quickly learn new computer skills.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US.
- Must have a current driver's license with a safe driving record.
- HS diploma required or equivalent.
- Associate or BS in Civil Engineering is a plus.
- 5+ years of CEI experience on SCDOT projects desired.
- Roadway and bridge inspection experience is required; SCDOT experience is desired.
- SCDOT ART, Earthwork and Base, Concrete Level 1 & 2, and ACI Field Concrete Technician certifications are required.
This position requires minimal lifting of up to 50 pounds sometimes on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions, including loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperatures.
The employee must be able to visually examine construction materials and finished structures and work in various types of weather and field conditions, including heights, uneven terrain, highway traffic, hazards of highway construction sites, and heavy equipment.
