Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MRI Technologist Senior to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for performing Magnetic Resonance Imaging examinations, providing assistance to physicians during exams, and maintaining a high level of knowledge of complex operation physics of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Perform specialized MRI studies, positioning patients and providing immobilization means and patient counseling as needed.
• Instruct patients of exam requirements before and throughout the procedure using excellent communication skills.
• Select appropriate protocols by having knowledge to tailor scans of each patient while producing superior image quality.
• Interpret unusual tissue contract patterns and alter or add protocols as necessary to enhance diagnosis using high-level judgment and clinical experience.
• Prepare hard copies from multiformat laser images and transfer images to magnetic tape for archival and storage.
• Maintain a high level of knowledge of enormous amounts of complex operation physics of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
• Identify potential equipment crisis by troubleshooting methods such as verifying proper connections of coils and LEMO connectors, transmitting and receiving functions of coils by checking RF power and output.
• Exhaust all troubleshooting methods before contacting the Chief MRI Technologist and/or service engineer, documenting any errors or equipment malfunctions in the service log when the Chief Technologist is not available.
• Review requisitions and assemble patient records, preparing previous cases for physician review.
• Maintain daily records of exams.
• Communicate with referring physicians and educate as necessary during site tours, remaining able to educate and train others under direct supervision of the Chief MRI Technologist, promoting positive relationships with all referring physicians and staff members, providing assurance and information regarding MRI to curious individuals, and maintaining overall comprehensive knowledge of science of nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
• Receive and identify patients, verifying preparation procedures are proper and in order, preventing potentially fatal accidents for all patients and visitors by acknowledging extreme safety hazards involved with MRI, protecting visitors and patients from accidents by following established pre-screening methods on the MRI questionnaire.
• Assure safety as well as comfort, physical and psychological needs of all patients throughout the entire examination, explaining MRI exams in detail at onset.
• Provide assistance to physicians during exams, recognizing and reporting patient emergency situations in the absence of nursing personnel, determining vital signs, and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining intravenous fluid, oxygen, and other life support systems.
• Maintain service records, logs equipment malfunctions, report and inform the Chief MRI Technologist of service-related problems.
• Order and stock materials for the MRI department, log ordered supplies on the inventory sheet, issue and complete forms for ordering as needed.
• Perform scheduling duties for the MRI department in the absence of the MRI clerk and the MRI Chief Technologist.
• Assure all monitors used in MRI, such as pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, anesthesia machine, oxygen tanks, suction machine, etc., are in operating order, discharge and recharge for drop-off and return of oxygen tanks, report all equipment malfunctions appropriately.
• Under the direction of the Chief MRI Technologist, compile statistical data for end-of-month MRI reports, compute information, and log all data and MRI EOM form.
• Choose one case per month for educational purposes and technical evaluation, consult with the MRI section Chief Radiologist to help obtain specific points of interest, relay evaluation, critique, etc., to all MRI staff members.
• In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, coordinate with patient accounting on billing procedures for the MRI department, maintain pathology file, and log MRI exam reports as needed.
• In the absence of the Chief MRI Technologist, remain knowledgeable in work-up of pediatric/anesthesia cases, follow policy and procedures as written, coordinate with the MRI clerk, ordering physician, operating room staff, and surgi center as requested, obtain patient medical records chart, complete essential paperwork, verify consent form and post-procedure orders are complete and appropriate.
• Demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities in the area of specialization.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.
• Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.
• Perform other duties and accept responsibility as assigned.
