Position Overview: The Lactation Support Consultant at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital operates at a proficient level in accordance with Benner's model of clinical practice. This role is dedicated to addressing the educational needs of women’s services patients, particularly in the area of breastfeeding support, under the general guidance of the Nurse Director.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Education: Leverage extensive knowledge in lactation support and women’s health to educate patients in diverse environments, providing grief support as necessary and addressing the educational requirements of childbearing families.
- Consultative Support: Offer consultative assistance to clinical staff and physicians, acting as a resource for problem-solving and fostering healthy workplace relationships.
- Staff Development: Assess the educational needs of staff, planning and implementing programs that enhance patient education, particularly in lactation.
Quality and Safety:
- Demonstrate advanced assessment and clinical documentation skills, contributing to the establishment of professional practice standards and improving patient safety processes.
- Engage in initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and safety metrics within the unit and across the hospital.
Financial Stewardship:
- Exhibit effective time management and prioritization skills, contributing to the efficient use of departmental resources.
Professional Growth:
- Identify opportunities for practice enhancements and participate in committees to share knowledge and promote professional development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of three years of clinical experience in lactation support or maternal health education.
- Current RN licensure in Texas or a compact state, along with certifications in Basic Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation.
