About the Role

The School Aide is a vital member of our educational team, providing support to students with special needs in a variety of settings. This role requires a high level of dedication, patience, and understanding, as you work closely with students, teachers, and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist students with special needs in achieving their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, including math, reading, speech, and independent skills.
  • Facilitate teacher-directed learning activities, such as lesson plans, worksheets, and reinforcement systems.
  • Accompany students during recess, lunch, and community experiences, providing support and supervision as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless support for students.
  • Strictly adhere to confidentiality requirements regarding student, parent, and classroom activities.
  • Assist with activities of prescribed programs, including those written by related service personnel such as PT, OT, and SLP.
  • Support students in developing independent skills through self-care activities, such as toileting, clothing routines, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  • Participate in behavior management techniques, as directed by the teacher and/or other school professionals.
  • Assist with clerical duties, including making stimuli, making copies, maintaining a clean and organized classroom, preparing materials, and assignment scoring.
  • Provide physical support, including transfers and ambulation, as needed.
Requirements
  • Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participate in Amergis' Competency program, as applicable.
  • Hold current CPR certification, if applicable.
  • Complete a TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray, if applicable.
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successfully complete new hire training, as applicable to the job site.
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, with proficiency in the English language.
  • Be computer proficient.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
