Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is a leading environmental planning and resource management company based in Pasadena. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Archeologist to join our cultural resources team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for successfully executing all aspects of project implementation, including project management, Phase I, II, and III investigations, and mitigation monitoring. The Senior Archeologist will work under the supervision of the Cultural Resources Manager and will be responsible for leading fieldwork, archival research, technical report writing, and state and federal archaeological permitting. The successful candidate will have a strong background in California cultural resources management, with a working command of federal and state cultural resources statutes. They will also have operational knowledge of the prehistory and history of California and the Southwest, as well as experience in the inventory and evaluation of prehistoric and historic archaeological resources. The ideal candidate will be able to write quality regulatory compliance documents and have a strong understanding of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Senior Archeologist will be responsible for gathering data and other information to be used in the preparation of environmental reports, working both independently and under the supervision of senior staff, and leading or assisting with project management and preparing proposal scopes and budgets. The successful candidate will also have the ability to organize data in an efficient and clear manner, interpret and record data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance. The ideal candidate will be a team player, with flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including occasional travel. They will also be innovative and a problem solver, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and communicate priorities to the manager. The Senior Archeologist will participate in marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new clients and projects. The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related field, and 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology and cultural resources management. They will also have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout Southern California.
