Ammunition and Explosive Handler Job Description

About the Position: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ammunition and Explosive Handler to join our team at the Army National Guard Units. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for handling, storing, examining, transporting, and identifying ammunition and explosives to ensure compliance with all regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform ammunition inspections, including the receipt, classification, storage, issue, and shipment of ammunition items.
  • Verify shipments of ammunition against depot surveillance records and sign for shipments.
  • Receive turn-ins from using organizations, count each item received, and inspect for serviceability.
  • Classify material to ensure compatibility of explosive items.
  • Conduct inspections of ammunition being turned in to determine suitability for further training needs.
  • Take appropriate steps in the disposition of ammunition condition codes - H (ACCH) material.
  • Prepare ammunition condition reports (ACRs) and send them to item managers for disposition of restricted and/or suspended items.
  • Demilitarize locally determined items in conjunction with designated explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams.
  • Prepare items for shipment to other depots and/or installations, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and packing requirements.
  • Perform routine and special inspections of conventional ammunition.
  • Monitor ammunition and explosive-related operations at firing sites and demilitarization areas for adherence to regulations and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Must have experience or training in the handling and maintenance of tools and equipment associated with ammunition and explosives.
  • Must have knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to the handling and storage of ammunition and explosives.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and research technical drawings, specifications, data sheets, serviceability standards, and technical manuals for ammunition and explosive items.
  • Must have knowledge of regulations and standards for safety in receiving, shipping, storing, and handling of ammunition and explosives.
  • Must be able to operate motor vehicles and forklifts for loading/unloading, transportation, and storage of ammunition and explosive materials.
