Job Title: Shop Leadman

Join Autauga County, AL as a skilled Shop Leadman to lead our team in maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and vehicles. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical problems, performing skilled tasks in mechanical repair and maintenance, and ensuring all equipment is in good working condition.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform general service and/or preventive maintenance on various makes and models of heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Analyze and repair vehicle engines, transmissions, and other components.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools to perform various repair procedures.
  • Remove, disassemble, and rebuild major units such as engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Repair or replace parts such as pistons, rods, gears, and bearings.
  • Overhaul or replace carburetors, generators, radiators, alternators, starters, distributors, and pumps.
  • Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
  • Turn brake drums, realign and adjust brakes, align front ends, repair or replace shock absorbers.
  • Repair and replace hydraulic lines.
  • Disassemble, repair, and replace hydraulic pumps.
  • Disassemble, replace, and repair hydraulic cylinders, controls, and valves.
  • Replace switchers, lights, brakes, starters, generators, water pumps, and other equipment components.
  • Replace or repair major components, attachments, or implements such as blades, tracks, compressors, booms, etc.
  • Test overhauled equipment to ensure operation efficiency.
  • Research and order necessary parts for repair work.
  • Drive service truck to job site for service calls to diagnose equipment problems.
  • Perform thorough safety inspection of equipment and repair site to ensure all repairs can be conducted safely.
  • Perform diesel/heavy equipment repairs on job sites as required.
  • Perform routine safety and maintenance checks before and after using service vehicle.
  • Perform additional repairs and maintenance as needed.
Requirements:
  • Eight years of work experience in vehicle and heavy equipment maintenance (diesel and gasoline); or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the above-listed knowledge, skills, and abilities commensurate with the requirements of this job.
  • Possession of a current and valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL is preferred.
  • Ability to travel throughout the County.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or emergencies as needed.
  • Any automotive or diesel mechanic certifications are preferred.
