The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role is essential in supporting a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps initiative is a federally funded residential training program aimed at equipping eligible youth aged 16-24 with career-ready technical and academic skills along with job placement assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
The CNS will assist the Health and Wellness Director in the development, execution, and assessment of an effective Wellness Program tailored to meet student needs and align with Job Corps' objectives.
- Advocates for the Wellness Program while providing care, assessment, triage, and treatment.
- Collaborates with the Health & Wellness Director, Physician, and Mental Health Consultant for comprehensive case management of students' health concerns.
- Facilitates orientation sessions regarding Health Services for students.
- Supports the Health & Wellness Director in fulfilling Center-Wide staff training requirements.
- Organizes and promotes initiatives that enhance health and safety across the Center.
- Ensures that quality services are consistently delivered to both trainees and staff.
- Guides students in enhancing their employability skills.
- Develops innovative strategies to boost participation in health and wellness activities on-site.
- Fosters a safe and secure environment.
- Adheres to OSHA regulations.
- Assists the Health & Wellness Director with medication management, including monthly inventory and ordering of stock medications/vaccines, daily monitoring of controlled substances, and oversight of trainees' prescriptions to ensure medication safety.
- Maintains precise records for the ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medications/vaccines. Aids in the monitoring of supplies and equipment within Health Services.
- Ensures compliance with DOL, Corporate, and Center requirements regarding medical records and the Nurse Practice Act.
- Provides on-call services for emergency care situations.
- Implements and supervises infection control measures within Health Services and assists with overall Center-wide infection control.
- Follows OSHA guidelines and provides written health standing orders for departmental procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Department Director.
- Engages with the Student Government Association's (SGA's) Health and Wellness Committee.
- The Clinical Nurse Specialist will oversee the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in accordance with state-specific nursing regulations.
- Demonstrates proactive behavior, completing tasks efficiently, tracking action items, and exercising sound judgment and problem-solving skills on behalf of the Director.
- Enters relevant information into the CIS and maintains necessary files and records.
- Ensures accurate maintenance of hard and electronic files to meet DOL, Corporate, and Center standards.
- Generates CIS reports to verify the accuracy of entered information.
- Monitors budgetary constraints, manages inventory, and ensures departmental areas are maintained in an attractive, clean, and safe condition.
- Ensures timely receipt and filing of purchase orders and that requested items are delivered promptly.
- Accounts for all equipment assigned to the department, ensuring it is well-maintained.
- Initiates work orders and ensures timely completion of repairs.
- Maintains cleanliness and safety in all assigned areas, including the Director's workspace.
- Adheres to integrity guidelines and procedures, ensuring confidentiality and the integrity of information.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Possession of an active, unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of employment.
- A minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience.
- Proficiency in computer skills and excellent communication abilities are essential.
Certifications and Licenses:
Valid state driver's license; CPR/First Aid certifications; Registered Nursing License.
