Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital. The ideal candidate will have experience in PET/CT, General Nuclear Medicine, and Nuclear Cardiology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals and operate radiation detection and imaging equipment.
  • Obtain diagnostic images and information using SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging equipment.
  • Prepare patients for exams, position and immobilize them as needed, and select proper imaging and data processing techniques.
  • Deliver patient care under the scope of license/training and maintain effective working relations with departmental and hospital personnel.
  • Calibrate and verify equipment operation, notify personnel of malfunctions, and perform quality control procedures.
  • Complete paperwork and RIS functions as necessary for each patient exam.
  • Stay up-to-date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  • Supervise and teach Nuclear Medicine Technology students within the department.
  • Prepare equipment, rooms, and supplies necessary for patient exams and daily use.
  • Assay, record, and dispose of radioactive waste and contamination.
  • Remain flexible in shift coverage and overtime situations.
  • Participate in research studies, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Valid Massachusetts license as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Registered or eligible for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients under physical and emotional stress.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to acquire and utilize knowledge of radiation detection, imaging, and computer processing techniques.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to frequent interruptions, roles, and work assignments.
  • Physical capability to lift and operate equipment.
  • Working understanding of Radiant, Cupid, and Epic applications.
  • Awareness of hazards within the department and adherence to safety standards.
