Position Overview
This role involves significant responsibilities within the Navigation Division, including:
  • Deputy Leadership: Act as the second-in-command to the chief of the Navigation Division.

  • Committee Participation: Serve on the West Coast Hopper Dredge Planning Committee.
  • Budget and Schedule Management: Direct the formulation of comprehensive budgets and schedules, prioritizing tasks and ensuring the effective execution of floating plant operations.
  • Field Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of field activities to ensure compliance with dredging directives and plans.
  • Innovative Practices: Lead studies and procure advanced methods and equipment to enhance the management of floating plants.
  • Repair Operations Oversight: Manage the operations of repair shops and boatyards for plant and equipment maintenance.
  • Engineering Supervision: Oversee the engineering aspects of floating plants, including planning, design, cost estimation, and contract administration for major repairs and improvements.
  • Personnel Management: Conduct personnel administration through subordinate supervisors, including work assignment and participation in selection committees for supervisory roles.
  • Dredging Maintenance Planning: Assist in developing plans for the dredging maintenance program for floating plants.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria, including:
  • Experience in operation and maintenance activities related to dredging and navigation facilities.
  • Ability to provide regulatory oversight for budget allocations.
  • Experience in leading and coordinating the work of maintenance staff in developing management plans for navigation projects.
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience is required, typically at the GS-13 level or above, which includes:
  • Involvement in dredging operations and maintenance.
  • Regulatory oversight related to budget management.
  • Leadership in coordinating maintenance section staff.
Additional Information
Selected candidates may be subject to a background investigation and must meet specific federal employment requirements. This position may involve temporary duty travel and is subject to a one-year probationary period. A comprehensive benefits package is available for federal employees.
