Position Overview:
The Risk Manager will spearhead the development and execution of quality and risk management initiatives within the organization.

This role involves monitoring patient outcomes and potential risks throughout the treatment process, as well as conducting reviews and audits related to risk management within the facility.

Furthermore, the Risk Manager will oversee the organization, direction, and supervision of functions related to the collection, inspection, processing, and maintenance of medical records.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee performance metrics in critical areas such as clinical outcomes, quality assurance, and service excellence.
  • Design and implement the organization's risk management framework in alignment with its mission and strategic objectives, ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Provide education and training to leadership and staff regarding the risk management programs and their roles in these initiatives.
  • Guide and support departments in formulating risk management strategies.
  • Gather, assess, and maintain data related to risk factors.
  • Conduct investigations and analyze root causes; identify trends and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Actively engage in or facilitate committees focused on risk management, safety, and quality enhancement.
  • Perform random audits of patient records to identify risk areas, including but not limited to admission/readmission audits.
  • Assist in the onboarding of skilled residents to the facility.
  • Ensure compliance with documentation standards.
  • Coordinate physician visit schedules.
  • Manage telephone inquiries and direct calls appropriately.
  • Support daily operational activities as required.
  • Identify and rectify inaccuracies in records following established protocols.
  • Assist in charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
  • May participate in on-call rotations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Skills:
Knowledge of data collection, analysis, and interpretation; familiarity with federal and state regulations and accreditation standards; strong leadership capabilities; ability to educate and train others on risk management topics; capacity to embrace process changes and foster a fair and just culture; adeptness in leading teams through complex issues; understanding of legal aspects of clinical practice and professional standards.

Experience:
Extensive supervisory experience in a geriatric environment; a minimum of one year’s experience in risk management, quality improvement, health information management, healthcare administration, patient care, or business management is preferred; geriatric experience is advantageous.

License/Certification/Education:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program with a registered nursing degree; current RN license in the state of practice; CPR certification; completion of continuing education as required to maintain licensure.

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.

Pathogens:
Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious diseases.
  • Work is typically conducted in a standard long-term care facility; environment is well-lit and temperature-controlled.
  • Above-average conversational noise is common.
