Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Critical Care Registered Nurse in the Float Pool, you will be responsible for conducting patient assessments, formulating care plans, and implementing and evaluating nursing interventions. You will oversee and assess the care provided by non-licensed staff within your team.
Float Pool nurses are expected to adapt to various units within the St. David's HealthCare System, working in areas where they possess the necessary competencies while also being prepared for modified assignments if needed.
- Conduct and document patient assessments upon admission.
- Develop and update care plans, including discharge planning, based on patient responses to treatment.
- Document nursing interventions and patient outcomes.
- Provide educational resources to patients and their families regarding care and treatment options.
- Administer medications and perform treatments in accordance with hospital protocols.
- Perform venipuncture and manage IV fluids and medications.
- Review and ensure proper execution of physician orders, communicating effectively with other departments.
- Alert the Charge Nurse or physician to any changes in patient conditions.
- Deliver accurate and pertinent patient information to the incoming shift to guarantee continuity of care.
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in an Intensive Care Unit.
- Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
- Current Texas Registered Nurse license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 60 days of hire.
- Completion of Advanced Trauma Nursing Course (CATN) or Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification within one year of hire.
