Job Title: Correctional Nurse Specialist
About the Role:
Amergis is seeking a skilled and compassionate Correctional Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a Correctional Nurse, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a correctional facility setting.
Salary:$83,000 per year
Location:Newton, IA
In this role, you will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, correctional officers, and administrators to ensure the well-being of the incarcerated population. You will utilize your knowledge to address specific challenges and limitations of the correctional environment while providing routine and emergency healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Perform focused interviews to identify patient needs
- Conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates
- Makes referrals to staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professional when necessary
- Determine emergency hospital care requirements and administer medication according to standard operating procedures
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from healthcare members and document actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
- Document patient plans of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected outcomes, and selected interventions
Requirements:
- Current Registered Nurse License for the state where you practice
- Minimum one year of correctional healthcare experience preferred
- Compliance with relevant professional standards of practice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
- CPR certification if applicable
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Meet federal, state, and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals via strong communication skills; proficiency in English language required
